CPA Career Opportunities – Chief Economist

Job Description:

As Chief Economist at CPA Canada, you will be reporting to the Vice President, Research, Guidance and Support. You will tribute to the organization’s overall research and reputational management activities through thought leadership and advocacy work relating to economic and social issues supporting the organization’s public policy agenda.  This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to the profession a breadth of expertise and media appearances, conducting presentations to various stakeholders and partners.

Job Responsibilities:

• Liaise with partner organizations, stakeholders, and academics to coordinate research on various public policy issues and participate in panels and others. These include IFAC and other accounting bodies.
• Help to contribute to the organization’s reputation management process by enhancing its brand by acting as a spokesperson.
• This work will include media appearances, conducting presentations to CPA provincial bodies, governments, partner organizations, and other domestic and international stakeholders the incumbent is also responsible for op-eds, columns, and other written materials in support of said agenda
• Conduct statistical analysis to produce high-impact, original research on critical economic and social issues supporting the organization’s public policy agenda

Job Requirements:

• Strong presentation skills
• Strong written and oral communications skills
• Technical skills relating to statistical analysis, regression analysis, and use of statistical tools (Stata, Eviews etc.);
• Strong media briefing skills
• Experience in public policy analysis and in-depth knowledge of critical economic, social and environmental issues facing Canada

Qualification & Experience:

• Masters degree in Economics; CPA designation considered an asset
• 10+ years performing a role focused on economics and research in a professional environment
• Extensive experience conducting economic analysis, authoring reports, conducting presentations and participating in media briefs
