Job Description:

The Renewables Accounting and Forecasting team supports Duke Energy’s Commercial Renewables (non-regulated) and Duke Energy One businesses. This role will have primary focus toward utility scale and distributed renewable projects financed with Tax Equity which require the use of the Hypothetical Liquation at Book Value (HLBV) Method of accounting. Main responsibilities include HLBV accounting and modeling support for the existing portfolio of projects financed with Tax Equity as well as partnering with business development teams in tax equity structuring. This role will also work to automate and improve the existing processes and controls to be equipped for future growth of the renewables portfolio. The ideal candidate will have 1) complex financial modeling skills and/or be an advanced user of Microsoft Excel, 2) accounting and/or tax experience associated with Tax Equity structures and/or tax partnerships, 3) possess strong attributes for accuracy, be detailed oriented, and have the ability to work independently.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Review development agreements/investments to understand and implement accounting treatment
  • Partner with the renewables development team to evaluate proposed transactions
  • Interface with site operating personnel, corporate personnel, tax equity partners, external auditors, vendors and consultants as required
  • Review third-party agreements to understand and implement accounting treatment
  • Prepare and/or review quarterly and annual audited financial statements for any assigned project with a third-party financing
  • Assist tax department with various data requests for assigned projects
  • Prepare and/or review various monthly and quarterly financial reporting schedules
  • Support the annual external audit for any assigned projects with an annual audit requirement
  • Responsible for Tax Equity Projects and accompanying HLBV Accounting
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating tax equity models for purposes of HLBV accounting

Qualification & Experience:

  • Six (6) plus years of increasingly diverse or complex experience in related field in addition to degree
  • Bachelor’s degree with major in Accounting/Finance or related discipline
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to manage multiple projects running concurrently
  • Possesses and applies fundamental accounting and finance concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Experience with financial applications (i.e., PeopleSoft, HFM, PowerPlan, etc.) and query tool (WebI)
  • CPA or working toward CPA
  • Eight (8) years or more of professional work related experience
  • Experience using Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Advanced degree, preferably in Accounting
  • Experience working with complex financial models
