Job Description:
Mobile Crew Members report to the Assistant Director of Live Interpretation and work closely with the Manager of Volunteers & Visitor Engagement. Interpreters will interact with visitors sharing education trivia games and simple family friendly activities. Interpreters will help visitors understand the new flow of the zoo and how to safely enjoy exhibits.
Job Responsibilities:
- teaching visitors to make connections between zoo exhibits, wildlife conservation, & their daily lives
- Provide feedback to improve the programming
- Learn about the WCS mission and conservation actions and be ready to share this information with visitors.
- Daily cleaning and upkeep of personal microphone and other interpretive equipment as needed.
- Report back on program and zoo safety flow and work to improve programs as needed.
- Participate in the upkeep of a fun and lively learning environment
- Remind visitors to keep on their masks and keep social distance.
- leading play-based learning experiences for visitors of all ages
- Wear a health and safety mask while interacting with visitors and in shared work spaces
- demonstrating science-based concepts to visitors with various educational tools
- Support admissions and visitors services to provide a friendly face at points in the park that need extra attention on any given day.
Job Requirements:
- Or You are a high school student with at least 2 years of experience at WCS. **Must be at least 17 years of age at the time application is submitted.
- Weekend and some holiday work required.
- Or Graduates from improvisational training (like USB or The Pit) or actors with 4 years’ experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Interested candidates should at minimum be working towards their bachelors or part of an acting conservatory program and should have a strong interest and/or background in environmental science, theater, and/or education.
- Candidates must be comfortable interacting with children in an informal outdoor setting.
Qualification & Experience:
- You have enthusiastic presentation skills
- You have excellent verbal communication skills to help interpret science concepts in a fast paced learning environment
- You have the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Be comfortable working outside in different weather conditions.
- Bilingual (in any language) a plus
- You are reliable, flexible and accountable
- You have excellent customer service skills, and are friendly and outgoing
