Job Description:
The Senior Director, Inpatient Care Management, will lead the operations of Optum’s inpatient care management function for strategic client partnership. The Senior Director is responsible for leading a team of professionals in both remote and onsite client work and serving as the coordination point across all functional teams including business operations, technology, human capital, legal, innovation and transformation teams. All leaders on the team are expected to be hands-on with project design, deliverable creation and implementation support for customers.
Job Responsibilities:
- Monitors budget and return on investment progress to ensure meeting contractual agreement
- Accountable for the performance of frontline and remote leadership and staff within the inpatient care management function
- Leads and participates in qualitative and quantitative assessments, project plan development, and key deliverable development for identified opportunities with key internal and external stakeholders
- Continuously monitors performance against service level agreements and key performance indicators; routinely reports performance results to client and Optum leadership
- Presents to large groups effectively, and ability tailor key messages to audience (CEO, CMO, CFO and other system clinical leaders)
- Develops and delivers clear and concise updates to senior leadership at the client site and within Optum
- Serves as the primary day-to-day contact for the client, including reviewing the work of the inpatient care management staff, consultants and analysts, and serving as the coordination point for the functional, products and transformation team
- Leads the inpatient care management function for all client health system hospitals
- Monitors progress toward key milestones and provides regular updates and escalates (as appropriate) to internal and external key stakeholders.
- Creates a trusted partner relationship with client and Optum executives and is seen as a partner in the successful design and implementation of the Optum inpatient care management program
Job Requirements:
- Travel as required to be onsite 5 days per week and ability to travel between markets, as needed
- Bachelor of Nursing, active RN license
- Full COVID-19 vaccination is an essential requirement of this role. UnitedHealth Group will adhere to all federal, state and local regulations as well as all client requirements and will obtain necessary proof of vaccination prior to employment to ensure compliance
- 7+ years of acute care inpatient care management with directorship experience
- History of driving initiatives and achieving performance goals across complex organizations
- Proven track record of building and influencing relationships with external and internal executives and stakeholders, as well as leading, influencing and managing a large matrix workforce
Qualification & Experience:
- Experience in hospital care management and/or leading complex clinical transformation consulting engagements resulting in significant recurring financial benefit
- Demonstrated self-starter with solid planning organization, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Master of Business Administration; Master of Health Administration
- Experience developing clinical transformation methodologies and designing innovative solutions in a complex and rapidly changing environment
- Solid presentation, written and verbal communication skills, including well-developed interpersonal skills
