Job Description:
Relay Tech is responsible for correctly reading and properly interpreting substation drawings (e.g., single line drawings, AC and DC schematics, panel wiring diagrams, and panel layout drawings). Must be available for periodic call outs to respond to power system emergencies, and be available for afterhours system support-on-call. Relay Tech is responsible for writing procedures and/or test plans in support of maintenance and construction activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Considerable knowledge of the proper and safe use and application of tools, equipment, and hardware.
- Comprehensive knowledge of mathematical computation procedures including, basic math, and square roots.
- Demonstrated proper knowledge of safe testing, maintenance, and repair techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot, make recommendations, and prioritize system improvements.
- Extensive knowledge of test equipment, electromechanical and microprocessor relays, meters, computers, communications equipment, and proper wiring methods and practices
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- 5+ years’ experience in Relay work or related field.
- Associates Degree, Trade, or Technical School in electrical theory
- Ability to interpret electrical wiring diagrams and drawings.
Qualification & Experience:
- Greater than 3.5 years related experience in relay work or equivalent job-related and educational experience.
- High School degree or GED.
- Ability to obtain a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work near energized electrical equipment which may also involve extremely tall structures.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain unescorted access to Duke Energy generation facilities and NERC CIP locations.
- Tech aptitude testing is required for this position.
- Ability to carry 75lbs for 100ft.
- Ability to perform maintenance in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in inclement and extreme weather conditions.
