Job Description:

This position is located in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Alaska, State, Area, Field Office. The incumbent of the position has overall responsibility for assisting in planning, coordinating biological activities and other planning applications throughout the assigned state dealing with wetlands, invasive species, endangered, threatened species, wildlife, and other resource management activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and coordinates activities in planning and conducting special wildlife, plant, or wetland studies, special investigations, and data gathering necessary for the development and refinement of standards.
  • Provides technical biological services for counties assigned.
  • Responsible for assisting in planning, coordinating biological activities and other planning applications throughout the state dealing with wetlands, invasive species, endangered, threatened species, wildlife, and other resource management activities
  • Provides direct assistance to landowners and partners in the determination, restoration, enhancement, and creation of wetlands, especially related to Farm Bill Programs.
  • Provides direct technical assistance for implementation of the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program, Wetlands
  • Reserve Easement (WRE) component.
  • Provides direct technical assistance for implementation of the wildlife projects funded through the Environmental Quality
  • Incentives Program (EQIP).
  • Provides training to NRCS staff and direct technical assistance and policy guidance to field staff relating to the National
  • Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Conducts wetland determinations and designs and oversees implementation of wetland creation, restoration, and enhancement.
  • Receives and disseminates information and materials related to compliance with the National Environment Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Makes field studies, demonstrations, and trials to determine efficiency and effectiveness of projects and practices in meeting overall wetland and wildlife habitat goals.

Job Requirements:

  • This position is designated for random drug testing under Departmental – Regulation DR 4430-7922-2 dated April 2011.
  • This position must complete and pass Pre-Employment Drug Testing before entrance on duty (EOD).
  • Incumbents of this position will be required to submit to a pre-employment or pre-assignment urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use and on an ongoing basis after appointment, as directed.
  • In addition, the applicant will be notified that appointment to the position will be contingent upon a negative drug test result.
  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position;
  • Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
  • Time in grade: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled.
