What will you work on as a Capital One Software Engineer? Buzz buzz buzz. Highly-available, highly-scalable micro-services, to back-end systems with sophisticated data engineering pipelines. All on the cloud! Versatility is the name of the game, as we play both offense by improving and streamlining customer experience, while also maintaining a strong defense by monitoring and building automated detection and decisioning to fight against potential bad actors and individuals trying to defraud Capital One and its customers. Our systems and applications seamlessly integrate software engineering, data engineering and data science in our effort to enable our customers while providing data-driven decisioning to stop unwanted activity

Job Responsibilities:

• Builds tools to make our infrastructure more consistent, more reliable, more observable, and require less manual intervention
• Has a sense of intellectual technical curiosity and an addiction to learning, loves taking things apart and putting them back together
• Has a strong sense of engineering craftsmanship, takes pride in the code they write and believes that good software development includes good testing, documentation, collaboration and adherence of YBYO philosophy
• Will be embedded with Capital One engineering teams to foster strong collaboration/partnership while actively looking for ways to contribute focusing on improving their services availability and operational processes
• Can mentor junior developers and easily collaborate with other engineering teams: education is a very important part of this role
• Has a systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with strong communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive
• Gets a bit excited about what they just read above

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge and experience with CloudFormation for build and deployment automation
• Hands-on experience with AWS resources such ECS, EC2, EMR, Lambda and security management
• Experience in full-stack monitoring, metrics collection, and reporting using tools such as Kibana, Splunk, and New Relic
• Experience implementing and managing automated CI/CD pipelines
• 3+ years experience in software development with Java
• Experience with parallel computing using Flink or Spark

Qualification & Experience:

• At least 3 years experience in software development
• At least 3 years experience managing and supporting infrastructure and software applications
• Bachelor’s degree
