Job Description:
Join the Six Flags Great Adventure Safari team as an Educator 1. As a part of the animal care team you will provide animals with proper nutrition, sanitary living conditions, and continual care. Primary responsibilities include educating guests about animals and the importance of species survival and conservation. This position could lead to a CORE position if certain standards and qualifications are achieved while an educator.
Job Responsibilities:
- Cross train in other areas of Safari including gate guarding, Safari Discoveries, and Camp Aventura.
- Participate in Safari Programs as assigned.
- Support our Save an Icon conservation initiative by promoting the program to guests.
- Ability to memorize all safari animal species facts in a timely manner.
- Write and implement a behavioral approximation plan.
- Handle reptiles based on your understanding of protocols.
- Perform informal keeper talks to public on and off microphone.
- Stand in zone and talk with guests about the animals in that zone.
- Participate in supervised education animal training sessions with birds, owls, mammals and sea lions based on your understanding of operant conditioning principles.
Job Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience using operant conditioning.
- Has achieved a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Psychology, or related field.
- At least 1 year of experience working with exotic animals.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Qualification & Experience:
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Able to stand or sit for long periods of time, bend, crouch, or climb.
- Must be able to lift and move 50 pounds or more.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude that fosters an environment of teamwork and learning that is respectful of all team members.
- Able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
- Must be available to work 40 hours a week during the height of the season including holidays and weekends.
