Job Description:

  • Alongside students, faculty, staff and administrators, the VPA will embrace those goals to lead continued change and innovation across the range of Seneca’s postsecondary and non-postsecondary full-time and part-time academic programs and services.
  • The VPA will encourage and support the accelerated shift to more virtual teaching and learning activities while responding to new opportunities created by the upheavals of the pandemic era, and the fast-forwarding of trends established well before COVID-19 hit.
  • Reporting to the President, the VPA will be the lead support to the Board of Governors’ Academic Planning and Student Affairs Committee.
  • Seneca requires a proven academic leader who is forward-thinking and collaborative, embraces a student-centred approach and challenges the status quo.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead by building trust, demonstrating collaboration and supporting transparency while showing decisive leadership and timely decision-making
  • Be an external face of the academic team with government, industry, economic development and community leaders
  • Engage with colleagues across the province, country and globe to build strong partnerships to benefit students and employees
  • Continue the strong Seneca tradition of delivering high-quality, market-leading programs, from certificates to degrees, while broadening the program portfolio, embedding flexibility in delivery and operations and expanding market reach
  • Implement the objectives of the Strategic Plan, the annual Business Plan and the Digital Strategy through cross-institutional collaboration to meet enrolment and program development goals
  • Enhance the culture of operational excellence, embracing continuous learning, continuous improvement and continuous innovation as hallmarks of the academic enterprise

Qualification & Experience:

  • A focus on student success
  • Success in academic leadership in postsecondary education
  • A history of leading lasting change in large, complex organizations through collaboration, determination and vision
  • Teaching experience in a postsecondary institution and leadership experience in a polytechnic or college
  • A global perspective that reflects the importance of international education and internationalization
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree
  • Evidence of continuous learning
  • An embrace of the priorities of equity, sustainability and more virtual
  • Strong relationship-building skills across all areas and all levels of an institution, including with the union leadership
  • Innovation, entrepreneurship and risk-taking that have led to transformative progress
  • A track record of building institutional capacity in applied research, entrepreneurship and business development
