Job Description:

  • Maintains husbandry of fish and other aquatic life in aquarium exhibits.
  • Enthusiastically represents SeaWorld by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Elementary aquarium husbandry techniques including taxonomy, record keeping, aquarium filtration, aquarium theory and emergency procedures.
  • Occasionally assist other locations and areas in the park as needed; other duties as assigned.
  • Basic water quality testing, chemical additions, salt water make-up, pH and temperature testing.
  • Assist with animal collection.
  • Involvement in basic animal transports.
  • Elementary aquarium health related issues and veterinarian assistance.
  • Assist with minor repairs to aquarium filtration systems.
  • Basic food preparation and feeding animals in specific aquarium areas.
  • Follow proper SeaWorld San Diego and SEA safety protocols.
  • Proper aquarium maintenance techniques: algae removal, display diving, aquarium decorating.
  • Answer guest questions concerning aquarium animals.
  • Ensure excellent customer service by responding to customer requirements, expectations and needs.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must have strong written/verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a SeaWorld dive physical.
  • Must be able to stand, walk and/or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must have a valid California driver’s license; out of state residents, active military, their dependents and students, must have a valid driver’s license and provide a copy of the DMV report from their state of residency; must be able to obtain SeaWorld driver’s license.
  • Must have 4 days of unrestricted availability including one weekend day. Must be available weekends, holidays, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Must be able to positively interact with guests and co-workers of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.
  • Must be SCUBA certified with a minimum of 10 logged dives.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • BS degree in marine science or similar degree preferred.
  • Experience in the Fish Department at SeaWorld San Diego preferred.
