San Diego Zoo Jobs – Mechanic Assistant

Job Description:

The Mechanic Assistant under general supervision maintains and services a wide variety of vehicles and motorized equipment; makes minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. This position reports to the Lead and Fleet Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assists mechanics as helper
• Checks tire pressure
• Changes tires and wheels
• Checks water, batteries, transmissions, brakes and differentials on vehicles
• Makes minor repairs and adjustments to vehicles
• Transports vehicles to garage for servicing and repair
• Maintains oil and fuel records, service records, and similar data
• Checks and records mileage
• Inspects automobile, trucks, buses and other vehicles
• Drives motorize vehicles on and off grounds

Job Requirements:

• General servicing requirements for vehicles and motorized equipment
• Keep simple records
• Basic mechanical principles and mechanic’s tools and equipment

Qualification & Experience:

• Education, training and/or experience which would demonstrate the essential functions, knowledge and skills outlined.
• Current valid California Driver’s License in good standing
• Learn specific mechanical maintenance tasks
• Work effectively with others in a diverse environment
