Job Description:

Provides project management and furniture and equipment support under the general direction of the project management team. Assumes responsibility for the furniture and equipment project function associated with the design and construction of new facilities/additions and renovations. Plans, coordinates, purchases and oversees furniture and equipment activities for assigned projects from program development design, conformance with design specifications, budget guidelines and compliance with all applicable building codes and regulations; coordinates work of architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors involved with assigned project(s). Manages minor construction projects working directly with buildings and grounds or assigned contractors, directs architects, engineers responsible for program development, design development and construction of improvements to inpatient, ambulatory, research and spaces that meet the mission of the hospital Project Manage reports directly to the Director of the Real Estate and Facilities-MGH.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Uses professional expertise in furniture and equipment to provide technical support to MGH administration and consultant architects/engineers during design and construction phases of projects. Formulates alternative design solutions for engineering issues/problems as necessary.
  • Provide FF&E budget estimate for capital projects.
  • Works with MGH departments and other tenants to ensure that construction/renovation projects are programmed to correspond with the needs of the users.
  • Ensure completion of all post-construction requirements for occupancy, including any necessary certificates, inspections and insurance confirmation.
  • Coordinates delivery and installation of furniture and equipment ensuring items are free of defects. Tracks all damaged product punch lists for timely project completion.
  • Work furniture team in workload planning, assignment of project, management of vendor workload and manufacturer representatives.
  • Manages all furniture and equipment activities throughout the program development, design engineering and construction process to ensure the timely and successful completion of assigned project(s). As appropriate, this includes direction of architects, review of construction documents, but is not limited to: monitoring construction schedules and notifying all parties involved of any deviations from the original schedule; coordinating the activities of and serving as MGH liaison between all field representatives of consultant architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors.
  • Manages furniture and equipment project expenses and ensures that all costs are in conformance with the project budget. Anticipates potential cost furniture and equipment overruns and discusses justification and supporting documentation with superior. Devises alternative construction/design solutions to cost containment issues for approval as appropriate.

Job Requirements:

  • A high level of administrative and organizational skills is required in order to manage multiple projects. Must be able to effectively oversee all aspects of design/construction process and direct projects to successful conclusion within restricted time frames.
  • Strong demonstrated analytical and problem solving are required in order to anticipate and resolve issues that may affect projects conformance with design specifications, budget allocations and ability to meet construction deadlines. Must use sound judgment and professional skills to bring about workable solutions.
  • May have specialty knowledge of furnishings, equipment, planning, signage, AutoCad, and/or move coordination.
  • Strong demonstrated interpersonal skills to deal effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization as well as outside architects, engineering consultants and construction contractors. Must be able to balance and effectively resolve conflicts between the construction needs/requirements of the Hospital, the needs of tenant departments and construction personnel.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Two (2) to three (3) years of project administration experience in the planning and management of projects, with scope of work ranging from minor alterations to projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Bachelors Degree in Architecture, Interiors or equivalent experience
