Job Description:

The primary purpose of this position is to execute operations for the Small Air Terminal and the military/federal portion of the airfield during a shift of operation. And to execute flight crew pre-flight, in route, and post-flight services similar to a Federal Aviation Service Station (FSS); including security and manifesting of passengers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Inspects and/or checks the military/federal portion of the airfield for flying safety hazards to include compliance with airfield criteria and aircraft foreign object damage.
  • Furnishes flight crews with a full range of services pertinent to pre-flight planning and provide in route and post-flight information for all inbound aircraft.
  • Meets and guides aircraft across active runways to the designated parking area, directs aircraft into parking position, secures aircraft by chocking wheels, attaching ground wires, and installing lock pins and engine covers.
  • Responsible for the effective operation of military/federal flying operations during the shift of duty.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of powered and non-powered aerospace ground equipment (AGE).
  • Enforces policies, procedures, and mandatory requirements pertaining to the transportation of military/civilian personnel and their dependents to world-wide destinations.
  • Utilize safety practices/procedures following established safety rules and regulations, and maintain a safe and clean work environment.

Job Requirements:

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Selectee may be required to serve a probationary or trial period
  • Selectee is expected to be granted with and/or maintain the appropriate security clearance required for the position
  • Employee must maintain current certifications
  • May be required to participate in Operational Readiness Exercises and Major Accident Response Exercises
  • Males must be registered for Selective Service, see www.sss.gov
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
  • Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • This posn is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • Relocation costs or other incentives may be available and considered by the organization
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Flight line driver?s license within 90 days

Qualification & Experience:

  • In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions. There is no group Group Coverage Qualification Standard for this series, use Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for GS-2154, Air Traffic Assistance Series.
  • SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have, or within 120 days of the closing date have specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07 (or higher),grade level or equivalent in other pay systems (may have been obtained in the federal service, military, or public sector) that demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the use of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control procedures.
  • Specialized Experience should include civilian or military aircraft operations work, such as flight instructor, instrument rated pilot, flight engineer, or air transport pilot; FAA certified dispatcher for an air carrier; Flight information expediter involved in determining flight times of airplanes and transmitting information to flight operations and command centers; Civilian or military air traffic controller; or Flight data processor.
