Job Description:
This position is located in the National Marine Fisheries Services (NMFS), in the Alaska Fisheries Science Center (AFSC), Fisheries Monitoring and Analysis Division with one vacancy in either Seattle, Washington.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assure that all observer data meets the Division’s quality expectations prior to finalizing data, making it available to end users.
- Apply concepts, principles, practices, and methodologies of biology and ecology to ground-fish observer programs; implement and evaluate fish management plans; and ensure established data collection procedures are properly followed.
- Communicate with observers to provide observer support and data quality control measures during fishing activities and debrief returning observers to ensure that the Division’s established data collection procedures were properly followed during observer deployments to commercial fishing vessels and processing facilities. Create a record of each observer’s data collection methodologies.
Job Requirements:
- Required to pass a background investigation and fingerprint check.
- Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable (www.sss.gov).
- Qualifications requirements must be met by closing date of announcement.
- Must be suitable for Federal employment.
