Job Description:
Serves as an Industrial Hygienist and is responsible for identifying occupational health (OH) hazards, planning and executing exposure sampling, developing and implementing recommendations to eliminate or control hazards and promoting OH programs. Self-starting and able to work in a high-performance team are critical personality traits. The ideal candidate holds a Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene OR is eligible and willing to sit for the CIH Exam within 1 year of hire.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs industrial hygiene (IH) surveys and assessments for hazardous chemicals/materials, biological hazards, and physical hazards in the workplace.
- Performs research (independently and via collaboration) on potential hazards, uses standard techniques for assessments, performs sample analysis where applicable, and prepares technical reports.
- Reviews federal, state, and local regulations, NASA guidelines and industry best practices regarding the occupational health protection of visitors and employees.
- Actively participates and provides expert professional industrial hygiene technical assistance and guidance to employees, supervisors, managers, agency environmental health work groups, on chemical, physical, and biological stressors in the workplace
- Develops policy and guidance for the evaluation of industrial hygiene hazards, including assessment of research activities, operations, equipment including new and routine applications in order to anticipate, recognize and control exposures.
- Develops new, or updates existing policy and guidance documents for the implementation and maintenance of the GRC IH program based on regulatory changes, emerging hazards, audit findings, and noted program trends.
- Assures compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, NASA Safety and Health Policies and Directives involving occupational, industrial and operational safety, and all other federal, state, and local industrial hygiene requirements.
- Develops, monitors, evaluates, and promotes improvement in industrial hygiene programs. Evaluates specified IH program accomplishments, analyzes IH reports and EHRS trends for recognition of exposure trends.
- Provides industrial hygiene training to managers and staff. Personally promotes facility, occupational, and environmental health awareness through presentations at meetings, conferences and in written technical reports of program and activities.

Qualification & Experience:
- You must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree that included a major in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science
- Have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s degree that included a major in engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene
- You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, and/or directly related education, as shown below, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of this position.
