Job Description:
The NASA John Glenn Research Center is seeking a highly experienced, self-motivated industry leading electrical engineer who can serve as a senior technical electrical engineering specialist for our high-power electric propulsion development for aeronautics projects focusing on small and larger aircraft applications. Seeking an individual with experience in design, and development of high power / high voltage power systems / electronic power conversion and high-speed high-power megawatt machines for aerospace applications and applying this knowledge base to the application of electrified aircraft propulsion and potentially space power applications.
Job Responsibilities:
- Providing subject matter expert level review and advice for industry flight demonstrations
- creating and/or advancing enabling technology for light weight / high power / high voltage inverters, converters, fault protection devices, and electrical machines
- Leading and conducting research and testing on integrated MW-class aviation powertrain systems
- serve as an information resource to engineering/research within the laboratory or on related or similar projects, such as significant improvements to existing flight systems, including propulsion and power or measurement and instrumentation systems;
- provide expert advice in the evaluation of contractors’ proposals in response to request for proposals for high power / high voltage power systems;
- written and oral communication of technical work to NASA, industry, and the public
- serve on standards and regulations committees and provide and analyze data to support modified or new aviation regulations and standards
- development and operation of testbeds to demonstrate the high power/high voltage concepts;
Job Requirements:
- Able to manage several projects concurrently
- Experience in megawatt ac/dc power distribution as it relates to aeronautics
- Proficiency in high power design and development for electronics, switchgear, and motor controls in aircraft
- Proficiency with high power/high voltage regulators
- You must have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science, Other fields of science.
Qualification & Experience:
- Experience in Electrical Engineering with a focus on high power electronics, motor control and electric machines
- Experience leading a high-performance team
- Experience communicating technical information
- Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
