Job Description:
This position contributes to Starbucks success by providing legal advice and counsel to Starbucks management and partners, acting in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles and values.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supports broader projects (either as legal lead or otherwise) to support UK, EMEA and global functions as required and others in the UK legal team.
- An effective business partner to the designated functions, responsible for providing timely commercial and strategic advice to help achieve Starbucks’ strategic goals and to manage risk associated with those areas of the business.
- Initiates, implements and contributes (as required) to the development of standardised business terms and legal processes and precedents, assisting with the development of strategic plans to achieve consistency and efficiency of legal services delivery in the UK.
- Works collaboratively and as key business partner with relevant UK functions and with EMEA and global L&CA teams to ensure UK standards reflect Starbucks corporate strategy and to support implementation of L&CA policy and initiatives.
- Determines how and when to engage outside counsel in areas of responsibility.
- Keeps abreast of new legal developments and regulation; escalating to responsible individuals within the business and developing plans (including training) to adapt or introduce new processes to deal with the changes.
- Educates and trains relevant functions in key areas of law, regulation and compliance and implements processes to enable the business to ‘self serve’ and accelerate.
- External networking. Develops trusting relationships with Licensed Partners, suppliers and third party stakeholders (management and in-house legal teams and general counsel) in order to facilitate commercial agreements and resolve any disputes efficiently. Develop external network of outside counsel and advisors to leverage support to the UK business and added value services.
- Leverages experienced members of the team (including him/herself) to work on complex or high value work and more junior members of the team to work on lower value/less complex work. Delegates work to junior lawyers and/or paralegals and other partners where appropriate and provides guidance and coaching to develop junior partners.
- Develops and implements systems and procedures to ensure efficient and consistent conduct of company business and identifies risks and liabilities implementing mitigations.

- Significant relevant post qualification experience (7 years+)
- Energy, determination and passion for the Starbucks business and for personal and team growth and development
- Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Organisation and planning skills
- England and Wales qualified solicitor
- Prioritises the needs and development of the team and the business
- Ability to influence cross-functionally and at all levels of seniority – internally and externally
- In-house experience
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
