Job Description:

  • Reports to the Managing Director – Safety & Security. Directs and oversees the required and voluntary safety programs that create an effective and comprehensive operational safety climate across Hawaiian Airlines to ensure the optimum performance for the airline.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Direct the oversight of the operational safety reporting and database systems and the reporting to ASIAS and CISP. Oversee the company reporting systems for each operational department to include; Incident Reporting, Flight Operations Quality
  • Assurance, Fatigue Management program, ASAP (PSAP, DSAP, MSAP and GSIP), and OJI reports; as well as
  • Investigations, Audits, Hazard Identification, LOSA and SMS
  • Direct the investigations for company mishaps, incidents, and accidents and function as the Primary Investigator for aircraft mishaps and accidents
  • Directs the Safety Management System (SMS) and provide continuous oversight of the process in all operational areas, coordination with the FAA SMS Program Office and Certificate Management Office to include program review and inspection schedules. Ensure safety representation at all departmental Safety Review Boards to ensure standardization and facilitate the Integrated Safety Review Board
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team concerning matters of operational audits or evaluations
  • Oversees the execution of the Line Operations Safety Audit (LOSA) programs and ensures that the data, hazards and identified risks are incorporated into the respective departmental SMS programs
  • Collaborate with the leaders and key stakeholders of operational departments and provide data-based reports, trend analysis and evaluations as requested to support senior management decisions
  • Oversee applicable operational safety databases. In coordination with other Safety Departments, use available databases to identify areas where enhanced equipment, training or procedures are required. Provide input and assist the Internal
  • Evaluation team concerning matters of flight, in-flight or maintenance including audits or evaluations of operations
  • Directs the development of advanced system safety models, tools and templates to drive enterprise safety planning and oversight. Evaluates the accuracy of data and reporting outputs and performs adjustment to maximize safety impact

Job Requirements:

  • Strong problem solving and listening skills
  • Working knowledge of aviation standards and safe operating practices, and the 14 CFR Part 5, Part 121
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Must be knowledgeable of Safety Management System processes and operational safety programs (FOQA, ASAP, LOSA,
  • CASS, IEP, Quality Assurance and AQP)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of safety system analytical tools and thinking including outcome-focused projects such as modeling, statistical and probabilistic evaluations
  • Self-motivated; strong interpersonal/team-building skills; and excellent communication skills
  • Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office programs and business intelligence tools
  • Proven leadership and management skills required; fiscal management and planning ability
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work with sensitive or confidential information without inappropriate disclosure

Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 5 years experience in Aviation Operations Safety Programs Operations (military or commercial aviation)
  • FAA Certified Airman Commercial pilot, Airline Transport Pilot, Dispatcher or Airframe & Powerplant
  • Safety department experience in a Part 121 air carrier or ICAO equivalent
