The ideal candidate for this position will have experience leading teams to support equipment maintenance, operation, and design/configuration for cable television infrastructure and audiovisual and teleconference systems. This position starts at a salary of $103,690 (GS-13). Apply for this exciting opportunity to become a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC) team within FEMA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • In this position, you will serve as a Lead Telecommunications Specialist responsible for leading a team of visual information specialists who install, operate, and maintain a variety of broadcast television and audiovisual equipment throughout the MWEOC facility. Typical assignments include:
  • Coordinating a team to assign work tasks and provide installation, troubleshooting, and project design for visual information resources.
  • Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on the full range of complex and sophisticated television, telecommunications, audiovisual, and visual information equipment to include: digital production and routing switchers; digital CATV demodulators, encoders, multiplexers, and
  • QAM modulators; fiber optic equipment and infrastructure.
  • Installing, operating, calibrating, and adjusting a full range of complex and sophisticated professional television broadcast and visual information equipment.
  • Upgrading and modifying digital CATV infrastructure to include head-end technical administration and distribution system expansion to meet mission requirements.
  • Coordinating, conducting, and monitoring a variety of television and VI projects site-wide; planning and/or conducting special studies; developing and/or evaluating policies and standard operating procedures in assigned areas of responsibility; providing technical assistance and support in a variety of matters relating to broadcast and VI activities; preparing and/or providing briefings and presentations on technical and analytical finding and recommendations.

Qualification & Experience:

  • You qualify for this position at the GS-13 level (starting salary $103,690) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • Installing, troubleshooting and advising on telecommunication systems (e.g., cable and satellite equipment) AND,
  • Determining requirements for digital and analog transmission, production systems and interfaces AND,
  • Planning and scheduling of specific projects for telecommunication systems.
