Job Description:

The Bronx County District Attorney seeks well-qualified staff members whose diverse backgrounds will contribute to serve the 1.4 million residents of the Bronx County community and who will pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Violent Criminal Enterprise Bureau (VCEB), located within the Investigations Division, is seeking an experienced attorney (10+ years) to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief. Reporting to the Investigations Division Chief, the Deputy Division Chief and the Bureau Chief, the Deputy Bureau Chief will assist in overseeing all aspects of VCEB which focuses on combatting violent gangs in Bronx County, through targeted investigation and prosecution.  Working in partnership with a variety of state, local and federal agencies, VCEB also proactively investigates and prosecutes firearms trafficking. VCEB partners with our Crime Strategies Bureau to convert actionable intelligence into pro-active investigations and prosecutions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Implement Office policies as directed.
• Train staff on federal and state statutory law and case law for criminal procedure and penal law.
• Collaborate with staff and other bureau managers to share intelligence regarding organized criminal activity.
• Advise and assist legal and non-legal staff in the handling of their assigned cases and duties.
• Conduct in-depth case reviews and conferences.
• Motivate, organize and direct all levels of staff to perform their jobs competently and with integrity.
• Oversee the monitoring and cultivation of confidential informants and cooperating witnesses.
• Participate in meetings and conferences between the DA’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
• Maintain current knowledge of investigative methods and proper application of relevant law.
• Oversee, supervise, and direct all investigations and prosecutions conducted by VCEB, including violent gang activity and firearms trafficking.

Job Requirements:

• US Citizenship and New York State residency are required as of the first day of employment.
• Significant grand jury experience.
• Active and Good Standing in the New York State Bar.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
• Ability to solve complex issues arising from investigations and case management problems from inception through conclusion both professionally and fairly.
• Strong business planning and forecasting skills.

Qualification & Experience:

• Experience in the cultivation and use of confidential informants and cooperating witnesses.
• Trial experience in the areas of violent crime, gang prosecutions, gun violence, complex conspiracies and criminal enterprises.
• Ample experience with the drafting and review of applications for search warrants (including those related to electronic devices and social media accounts), 2703(d) orders, pen registers and eavesdropping warrants.
• 10+ years of experience, 18 months in a managerial role required.
• Significant experience investigating complex conspiracies and criminal enterprises. Juris Doctorate degree required
