Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Systems Engineer level 4 to join the System Integration, Test, and Launch Systems Engineering Group. You will report administratively to the Group Supervisor for Systems Integration, Test, and Launch Systems Engineering, and programmatically to the SI&T Systems Lead as your primary technical stakeholder. You will work on tasks such as system level approach to testing for purposes of both verification and validation, requirements for EGSE and facilities, and ensuring safe and efficient approaches to testing of the flight system. You will be a shift leader at JPL and at the launch site, and work with flight systems engineers, instrument engineers, avionics engineers, and mechanical engineers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Experience planning for and leading complex hardware and/or software integration activities.
  • In-depth experience on flight projects in requirement development, integration and test and/or verification and validation.
  • Willingness to obtain a security clearance
  • Understanding and hands-on experience of JPL and NASA policies and procedures, JPL Flight Project Practices and Design Principles, and JPL system engineering practices; demonstrated ability to tailor the planning and execution of these on missions of various risk classes.
  • Experience with guidance and control aspects of system engineering, including system software specification, development, and test; payloads and instruments; knowledge of project ground data systems and mission operations teams.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary and multi-organizational team; ability to work on major project assignments without appreciable direction with accountability for technical performance.
  • Class A mission experience.

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to lead the team through daily activities and synthesize the unique discipline knowledge of a broad range of technical subject matter experts (SME’s); Ability to deal with multiple issues, tasks, and priorities concurrently; excellent collaboration, negotiations, oral, and written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in successfully leading project working groups on tasks for meeting on-time delivery of technical design products in subsystem or bus development, primarily for electrical hardware, assemblies, and mechanical systems; experience with development and delivery of system documentation (requirements, test plans, procedures, and design description documents).
  • Extensive understanding and application of principles, theories, concepts, and techniques used in system engineering and solving engineering problems.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Recent flight project implementation experience as a system engineer in one of the following areas: flight system, integration and test, subsystem, or equivalent.
  • First-principles working knowledge of all major spacecraft subsystems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with a minimum of 9 years of professional work experience, or Master’s degree with 7 years of professional work experience, or Ph.D with 5 years of professional work experience.
