Job Description:

This position located in Greenville, South Carolina and will support the state regulatory attorneys in the Office of General Counsel, with a focus on regulatory matters before the Public Service Commission of South Carolina

Job Responsibilities:

  • Attend and assist counsel at hearings before the Commission
  • Prepare summaries of filed comments, pleadings, and testimony and assist in drafting comments, testimony and other filings
  • Facilitate and assist in management of discovery process
  • Assist with preparing witnesses for hearings and interviewing to gather information; prepare exhibits and witness preparation materials in advance of hearings
  • Develop relationships with various departments throughout the company; coordinate the gathering of information; organize information and draft summaries
  • Track and manage dockets and procedural deadlines to ensure timely response
  • Conduct legal research, review applicable legal principles and precedent; draft memoranda, charts, or other documents with attention to detail using research software (i.e., Lexis Advance) and web-based research tools
  • Oversee, review, proofread, cite and quality check pleadings and exhibits
  • Draft and edit legal documents such as pleadings, testimony, discovery, orders, settlement agreements, cover letters, legal holds, and other regulatory related documents
  • Make required filings with the Commission using e-filing system and in person, if needed

Qualification & Experience:

  • Experience with a state regulatory commission or similar type governmental agency or body; e-Filing and other South Carolina court procedures, both Federal and State
  • Regulated industry or utility experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal certificate, or at least 7 years of experience with an in-house legal department or law firm and obtaining a Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certificate within a reasonable amount of time
  • At least 2 years related experience as a paralegal in a law firm, corporate legal department or governmental agency in regulatory or litigation practice group
  • Paralegal Degree or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Open Pages, e-Filing, SharePoint, SFTP and eDiscovery management systems
  • Proficient with Lexis Advance legal research tools, including specific regulatory research tools
  • Experience handling discovery, including review and production
  • Familiarity with utility regulatory concepts
