Job Description:

  • This position is located in multiple Immigration Courts of the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge (OCIJ), Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), U. S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • This is a Competitive Service position; additional positions may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of certificate issuance.
  • Deputy Court Administrators share fully with the Court Administrator all phases of work direction, contractor oversight, and delegated authority to manage the daily activities of the Immigration Court and the supervision of staff interpreters, legal administrative specialists, legal assistants, clerical and technical employees and may serve as liaison with the local office of the Department of Homeland Security, the private bar, and non-profit organizations that represent aliens.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Directing the work of technical and support personnel in accomplishing overall support to the court.
  • Providing guidance to staff on workload, priorities and schedules.
  • Advising higher level officials of situations involving the relationship of the work of the court to broader programs and resulting impact.
  • Recommending staff selections and reviewing promotions and reassignment of personnel.
  • Developing written policy and implementation procedures for Operational Emergency Plans, Continuity of Operations Plans, Active Shooter,
  • Shelter-in-place and other emergency preparedness programs for the immigration court.
  • Administering a court management program which includes the filing of charging documents, motions, appeals, and the proper processing of cases from initial creation to final disposition.
  • Managing a variety of administrative activities and functions.
  • Coordinating space and facilities for the Immigration Court, which includes participation in planning, construction, and renovation projects; may serve as a liaison with DOJ/EOIR Space and Facilities Management Staff; General Services Administration and/or private contractors, for the maintenance of court space and facilities.
  • May serve as a member of the Court Administrator Advisory Committee (CAAC) and various other national committees at the direction of the Chief Immigration Judge.

Job Requirements:

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • You must complete a background investigation, credit check, and drug test.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
  • Managing and directing court support services and programs;
  • Reviewing and analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of court administrative activities and programs;
  • Directing the activities of staff performing court administrative duties; and
  • Providing advice and guidance to senior court officials concerning court management issues and operational policies and procedures.
