Job Responsibilities:
The Card Legal Team is seeking an attorney to provide advice and counseling to select Consumer Credit Card horizontal platforms and services teams, including our Card Fraud and Disputes organization. Specific areas of expertise required include consumer financial regulatory laws, card network rules, privacy laws, contract interpretation, marketing laws, and risk management. This position will report to a Vice President, Senior Associate General Counsel in Card Legal and will have responsibility for (1) identifying and assessing legal risks associated with Capital One’s consumer credit card business; (2) active engagement and legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team; and (3) working with Card, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Operations, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues. This position will entail numerous interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys in a fast-paced environment. Some travel to other Capital One locations may be required.
Job Requirements:
- At least 6 years of counsel or compliance experience with consumer finance laws, regulations and disclosures
- In-house, corporate legal experience
- Understanding of Regulation Z, UDAAP, consumer financial laws and privacy laws
- Ability to identify and describe legal risks presented by a complex business model
- Ability to build collegial and effective relationships with attorneys, business managers, creative teams, analysts, project managers, and corporate compliance professionals
- Ability to prioritize a significant volume of work and to manage multiple, simultaneous deadlines
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence others
Qualification & Experience:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 4 years of counsel experience with credit card programs OR at least 4 years of financial services OR consumer regulatory experience
