Fresno Jobs Hiring – Road Equipment Operator Trainee

Job Description:

Road Equipment Operator Trainees receive training in the operation of various types of road construction and maintenance equipment (defined below), train in a variety of manual skills required in maintenance and construction of County highways and bridges, and perform related work as required.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assists in maintenance and construction work on bridges, including concrete and timber repair and replacement.
• Installation of warning signs to identify construction sites, maintenance projects, flooded roadways and other hazardous areas.
• Loads and removes debris from streets and roads.
• Maintenance of work areas, such as cleaning the shop, equipment, and maintenance area and making minor repairs around the yard.
• Performs routine heavy manual laboring work as a member of a maintenance or clean-up crew.
• Assists in keeping tools and equipment in working condition.
• Installation and repair of metal and concrete pipes.
• Trains in the operation of various Type A and Type B County Road Equipment.
• Trains in the operation of other equipment such as chain saws, jack hammers, pneumatic tampers, vibratory compactors, generators, hoists, winches and hot melt crack fillers.
• Acts as flag person on projects and directs traffic.

Job Requirements:

• The mechanical operation of the equipment and the ability to make inspections, minor emergency repairs and adjustments.
• The State Motor Vehicle Code as it applies to the operation of road construction, and maintenance equipment;
• Work compatibly with a crew;
• Perform heavy manual tasks;
• Train in the operation of a variety of road construction and maintenance equipment in a safe and efficient manner;
• Principles and practices of on the job safety;
• Obtain a valid Class “A” Driver’s license with endorsements for air brakes, combination vehicle operations, hazardous materials operations, and tank vehicle operations;
• Understand and follow oral directions;
• Read and understand simple job-related materials;
• Road maintenance and construction practices;
