CHP Application – Automotive Technician II

Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Administrative Sergeant, the Automotive Technician II performs all duties with regards to the maintenance of California Highway Patrol vehicles, special enforcement vehicles, and specialty (non-traditional vehicles). This position requires incumbents to crawl underneath a vehicle / down under the dashboard / into the trunk and to lift and carry tires up to 60 pounds.

Job Responsibilities:

Specific duties include: Diagnosing, inspecting, and performing minor repairs and adjustments on motor vehicles and accessories in order to maintain vehicles in proper working order in a timely manner; except items covered under warranty. Assembling, installing, repairing and/or removing special automotive equipment. Conducting comprehensive safety inspections of the fleet and maintenance shop. Scheduling vehicles for routine/regular maintenance and repair by private vendors. Coordinating fuel shipments. Coordinating pick-up of hazardous waste and used tires. Changing flat tires as needed. Maintaining inventory records of all tools and equipment. Maintaining the vehicle service island and storage facilities. Completion of other duties as required/or assigned. Job Requirements:

• The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
