Job Description:
The Coal Combustion Products (CCP) Project Team at Cliffside supports the planning, design, and implementation for Duke Energy’s ash basin closure program. The project involves the implementation and oversight of scope associated with impoundments, landfills, large scale excavation and construction, environmental controls and measures, water management and water treatment. The team Intern will support the closure project engineers, project managers, and construction managers with both office and field activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Project Manager’s, Construction Managers and Field Engineers with all phases of project planning and execution including managing Project baselines for scope, schedule, cost, quality, communications, security, and integration and will help manage the CCP Ash Basin Closure Project effectively.
- Supporting the overall CCP Department objective to drive incidents to ZERO!
- Communicating clearly and effectively
- Assisting the Project Managers, Construction Managers and Field Engineering with all phases of project planning and execution to ensure all project success factors are met, including but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, quality, environmental, safety, communications, security, and integration.
- Interacting with key stakeholders including the Station, Major Projects, Transmission, Community Relations and Corporate Communications.
- Assisting the Project Managers, Construction Managers and Field Engineers with implementing the ash basin closure scope while ensuring that all project objectives are met or exceeded for safety, environmental, quality, schedule, cost, configuration management, integration, etc.
- Understanding schedule variances and report any discrepancies to the Project Manager.
- Understanding the Project Execution Plan and ensure compliance.
Job Requirements:
- Currently enrolled and pursuing a four-year degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering (Non-Technology) from an Accredited College or University
- Cumulative GPA of 2.75
- Must not graduate prior to December 2020
- Valid driver’s license
Qualification & Experience:
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred
- Sophomore level or above is preferred
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in use of computers, software, and engineering applications
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated history of achievements and personal performance
- Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making
- Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to solve problems and implement solutions
- Desire to pursue a career in the energy industry
