Job Description:
Provide credit and underwriting support for large, complex debt transactions using financial methods designed to assess, identify and then mitigate business risks associated with financing worldwide.
Job Responsibilities:
- Advises and consults with Business Units to ensure financing structures have levels of risk commensurate with established FPD Credit policies.
- Interested parties can and may include, end-user customer; marketing organizations of Caterpillar Divisions, staff and management of Business Units especially Account Managers, Transaction Coordinators and Financial Products Division (FPD) credit staff and executives.
- Approves/rejects proposed transactions within established credit authorities and recommends deals beyond credit authority.
- Formulates and implements competent underwriting plan to identify, assess and mitigate all material risks.
- Finds solutions to mitigate potentially serious risks inherent in proposed financing transactions.
- Overcomes obstacles to successfully close the deal, while not degrading portfolio quality.
- Advises on optimal structuring of the transactions, as well as the setting of reasonable expectations on the part of both the customer and dealer.
- Uses complex financial modeling and forecasting of future pro forma financial results; insurance coverage; and risks related to third party contracts to which the customer is either a party to or can be impacted by.
- Explains, defends, persuades and stands up for recommendations and position taken for all interested parties, while respecting underwriting recommendations and decisions.
- Underwrites new finance submissions. Transactions frequently will be large, complex and may involve construction finance, syndications, and domestic and cross-border project finance and syndications in US dollar or foreign currencies.
Job Requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge of financial and tax accounting practices and a working knowledge and understanding of domestic and international commercial financing practices and the requirements of international lending and guarantee agencies.
- Advanced knowledge of the credit and operations aspects of transacting financing business within FPD.
- Thorough understanding of CFSC’s financing, credit and funding policies and procedures, currency risk, documentation (i.e. leases, conditional sales, loans, promissory notes, etc.) and pricing models to ensure acceptable pricing and terms of transactions for system input.
- Advanced knowledge and ability to perform advanced business risk analysis, underwrite large, complex business credits.
- Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated ability to use spreadsheet software to perform advanced financial modeling and cash flow analysis.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and the ability to identify the implications and principal aspects of various financing structures and how their usage will be reflected in spreadsheets, pricing and various other financial calculations.
- Advanced knowledge of key financial concepts related to loans, leases, senior and subordinated debt, capital stock, common stock, preferred stock, warrants, options, and etc.
- Working knowledge and demonstrated ability to work with legal advisors and to negotiate terms and conditions.
- Working knowledge of financial instruments and risk elements used in international transactions.
- Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability to perform financial statement analysis.( Moody’s Credit Risk Training, Moody’s Financial Statement Training, Cash Flow Training or equivalent)
Qualification & Experience:
- Equivalent experience may be substituted for education.
- Previous work experience must be progressively increasing in responsibility and accountability and demonstrate an ability to gain knowledge, skills, and responsibility such that a level of full competency can be reached.
- A 4-year college or university degree in any discipline and a minimum of 6 years exempt experience in credit, customer services, collections, marketing, financial statement analysis and/or a related discipline is recommended.
