Job Description:
The Category Manager is responsible for the overall merchandising direction of a category department(s) with the goal of meeting/exceeding sales and margin targets. The Category Manager will focus on the product category and customer by incorporating competitive intelligence, customer insight, and business analysis. This position is responsible for the purchase and negotiation of merchandise and will partner with the planning, inventory, finance and marketing teams to develop strategies to maximize business opportunities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with product development teams to manage the timeline and overall product designs, pricing, MOQ’s within a given category
- Analyze and forecast category sales data to identify business growth opportunities and liabilities
- Work with senior leadership to develop a strategic vision for product categories and actionable plans that support the overall objectives
- Partner with e Commerce to share the product vision and strategy, in order to execute and launch on PartyCity.com
- Perform competitive shopping to increase the connection to our customers and know the market place
- Develop vendor relationships that grow the business via market meetings, trade shows, thoughtful planning and communication
- Partner closely with business partners in Operations and Planning to drive in store execution and presentation; inventory management in stores
- Develop, mentor and lead a team to grow the team and business
- Analyze feedback and other sources to define and improve category strategies, product assortments, marketing and pricing
- Create new business concepts and products to grow and improve our in store/online experience
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of cross-functional teams (Visual, Marketing, Data Management, Planning, Stores, Facilities, Safety)
- Manage merchandise programs, vendor relationships, store merchandising, inventory management, markdowns and marketing in accordance with the category strategic plan
- Actively monitor, analyze and report on the business and market trends
Job Requirements:
- Strong leadership and management experience skills with a track record for building effective teams and developing direct reports
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
- Ability to adapt to change quickly
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Demonstrated effectiveness with decision making, influencing and negotiation skills
- Display a positive attitude, professional manner and a willingness to be a team player and assist co-workers at all levels
- Highly organized with an impeccable attention to detail
Qualification & Experience:
- Strong product sensibility
- Adapts to and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups
- Strong comprehensive understanding of PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook required
- Thorough knowledge of buying and operations gained through progressive experience
- 4 years merchandise experience required; preferably with a large organization in a similar role
- Business acumen with extensive experience analyzing data and forecasting methods
