Job Description:

The Associate Trainers provide care and compassionate training to a variety of magnificent animals. You will perform daily husbandry tasks, including administering vitamins and medications as directed, preparing food, and maintaining a safe and sanitary working area for all animal habitats. You will also help ensure guest, personal, and animal safety through diligent observation and response to any behavioral precursors of potentially harmful behavior by both animals and people.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist guest and trainers in preparation of and educational aspects during interaction programs.
  • Make daily observations of animals and report any abnormalities to staff supervisor and team.
  • Provide and maintain a work environment that follows the established guidelines and safety procedures set by the department and park.
  • Provide proactive guest service through guest interactions, pre and post show interactions, and responding to guest inquiries.
  • Maintain openness to act as secondary animal person and safety spotter when needed. Act as primary trainer when approved and as directed by leadership.
  • Maintain a consistent attitude, motivation, and ability to accept feedback.
  • Maintain all animal records, equipment, area responsibilities, and communication requirements daily.
  • Consistently display consideration, tolerance, cooperation, open communication, and reliability.
  • Perform all supportive roles as directed in education and general public shows to develop speaking skills and stage presence.

  • Responsible for guest, personal, and animal safety by developing and awareness of the behavioral precursors of potentially harmful behavior by both animals and people.

Job Requirements:

  • Open Water SCUBA certified
  • High school diploma
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and post-employment swim tests and diving physicals
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • College background in psychology, zoology or biology preferred
  • 6 months of animal training or animal husbandry experience in a marine mammal, zoological, or aviculture setting preferred

Qualification & Experience:

  • Scheduling flexibility
  • Ability to complete all legal, company, and department training requirements
  • Ability to frequently lift, pull, and push 50 pounds
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather
  • Basic math abilities
  • Ability to attain CPR certification
