Job Description:

Internal audit constructively challenges the organisation to ensure appropriate levels of risk management and controls are in place to prevent financial, operational and Health & Safety key risks from occurring that may have an adverse impact on the Kingfisher businesses and/or our brand. Using in-depth knowledge of financial and operational control requirements and experience of retail operations, agree actions with the businesses that can reduce risk and/or improve efficiency and performance. The team’s remit primarily covers UK & ROI operations with increasing focus on collaborative Group working.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform independent assessments of the robustness of financial and operational controls within B&Q, Screwfix and Group
  • Functions to provide assurance to stakeholders that controls are working effectively
  • Agree appropriate actions with senior management and leadership teams to mitigate identified risks
  • Undertake investigations and special projects as required
  • Be the point of contact for corporate teams for expert advice on controls and risks
  • Assist in developing a flexible audit plan by assessment and prioritisation of business risks
  • Pro-actively build relationships with key stakeholders across the UK operations to help identify new and emerging risks to the business
  • Ensure best practices are shared across business teams and Operating Companies
  • Ensure issues are effectively resolved or escalated when necessary
  • Prepare and issue reports for distribution to senior management and Board members
  • Use knowledge of issues and best practices to identify control weaknesses and assess associated risks.

Job Requirements:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team on a diverse range of audits.
  • The ability to occasionally travel to Screwfix Head office in Yeovil.
  • Demonstrates good business and risk acumen with the ability to be pragmatic
  • Ability to develop and build relationships with key stakeholders, adapting to variable levels from entry positions to board executives.

Qualification & Experience:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) or qualified auditor (CMIIA, CPIIA or similar).
  • Audit experience within an external or internal audit environment, preferably with a good understanding and experience of a retail business.
