We provide systems engineering for the design and implementation of spacecraft for the laboratory’s key flight projects. Our work spans spacecraft systems engineering, payload systems integration, electrical systems integration, fault protection and autonomy design, landing systems design, spacecraft assembly and test, systems verification and validation, and systems modeling.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and present testbed information and data at meetings and reviews
  • Certify the testbed
  • Complete the system level Verification and Validation of the flight system
  • Design and execute Operational Readiness Tests and Mission Scenario Tests
  • Develop the technical, operational, and functional requirements as well as the interface agreements of the system testbed
  • Work in a lab facility with hardware, ground support equipment and test equipment
  • Assure that the quality, accuracy, and integrity of the system testbed technical documentation, reports, and deliverables comply with JPL standards, project plans, and policies
  • Research and author Activity Plans for the system testbed
  • Stand up the system testbeds
  • Test and integrate spacecraft hardware and software
  • Assess complex issues and recommend resolution to the team and management; implement resolutions

Job Requirements:

  • Complete knowledge of Jet Propulsion Laboratory policies and procedures, NASA policies and procedures, and government regulations across a range of applications
  • Complete knowledge of industry and/or academic practices and standards in Systems Engineering
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python preferred)
  • Willingness to obtain a security clearance
  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems using various types of test equipment
  • Experience handling and testing Engineering Models and Flight Hardware
  • Proficiency in advising management on system architecture, technical results, and risks

Qualification & Experience:

  • Proficiency in exercising discretion and judgment in evaluating potential approaches and solutions to critical problems and determining appropriate resolutions
  • Experience in system integration and test of spacecraft or flight instruments
  • Experience developing, executing, and reporting on automated and manual test procedures
  • JPL/NASA mission experience
  • Bachelors degree in engineering, physical sciences, or mathematics with a minimum of 9 years of professional experience, or Masters degree with 7 years of experience, or Ph.D with 5 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in resolving issues in test development, troubleshooting, training, and interacting with project and line management in order to ensure that project and line deliverables are met on schedule
