Job Description: The Instrument Software and Science Data Systems section is looking for a postdoc who will engage in multi-scale numerical modeling of composite thermoelectric materials in support of experimental efforts at JPL to build advanced Radioisotope Thermoelectric Generators for future deep space missions. The thermoelectric properties of composite materials largely depend on the charge and heat transport across the interfaces between the matrix and the inclusion materials. Job Responsibilities: The primary objective of this postdoctoral scholar position is to compute the quantum transport through the interface between transition metals and complex thermoelectric materials such as rare earth chalcogenides and zintls. Dr. Paul von Allmen will serve as postdoctoral advisor. The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with the JPL advisor, and publish results in the peer-reviewed literature. The position is available immediately, and will remain open until filled. Job Requirements: Candidates must have a PhD in physics with expertise in carrier dynamics in semiconductor materials. Expertise is also required in DFT first principles simulation of materials and many-body perturbation theory. The successful candidate will be fluent in scientific software development. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application are eligible. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum duration of three years. Qualification & Experience: Candidates should submit the following to this site: CV, representative publications, contact information for three references, and a cover letter stating their research accomplishments and interests.
