Job Responsibilities: The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), managed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), invites applications for a postdoctoral research position at JPL in the areas of astrophysics, machine learning, and high speed digital signal analysis in support of the various pulsar-related and time-domain transient programs currently underway. The JPL pulsar group has been involved in a number of projects, including deep searches for pulsars at the galactic center region of the galaxy, studies of radio magnetars, multi-frequency studies of the giant pulse emission mechanism, and high frequency follow-up studies of fast radio bursts. The JPL team has recently commissioned state-of-the-art hardware in support of these projects, enabling observations with the Deep Space Network’s (DSN) large 70-m diameter dishes at all three DSN sites. Dr. Walid Majid will serve as the postdoctoral advisor. The appointee will carry out research in collaboration with the JPL advisor and others, resulting in publications in the open literature. The postdoc will be based at JPL, however, strong collaboration with the Caltech campus will be expected. Job Requirements: A successful candidate will hold a recent PhD in physics or astronomy and have published in a relevant field, including but not limited to pulsar astronomy, FRB science, and general radio astronomy including interferometry and VLBI, be technically minded, have strong programming skills, and able to work well in a team. Candidates who have received their PhD within the past five years since the date of their application are eligible. Postdoctoral Scholar positions are awarded for a minimum of one-year period and may be renewed up to a maximum duration of three years.
