Job Description: As a Structural Dynamics Engineer you will be working for the Spacecraft Mechanical Engineering Section, which is responsible for the architecture of mechanical engineering designs and solutions that enable unprecedented missions and science acquisition. You will belong to a team that leads the development of mission enabling technology and end-to-end mechanical systems for all JPL projects and missions. Job Responsibilities: Perform structural dynamics and loads analyses, multi-body dynamics simulations, and modal testing for flight projects, R&D tasks, & proposals. Prepare and maintain structural dynamics requirements and verification plans. Provide loads & dynamics knowledge to projects and collaborate with project personnel and contractors such as project stress leads; system and cognizant engineers; guidance, navigation, & control (GNC); and dynamic environments. Collaborate with other structural analysts and dynamicists as well as other team members on assigned projects to verify compliance with requirements and customer expectations. Job Requirements: Working knowledge of LS-DYNA, SIERRA, NASTRAN, FEMAP, ADAMS, MATLAB, and ABAQUS Other preferred computer skills include MATLAB, PYTHON, HYPERMESH, UG NX CAD and UG Teamcenter, SolidWorks. Knowledge of verification requirements for structural analyses combined with experience performing dynamic testing. Qualification & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related technical discipline with a focus on Structural Dynamics with 3 years of related experience, or Master's degree in a similar discipline with a minimum of 1 year of related experience, or PHD in a similar discipline without experience. Understanding of the fundamentals of structural dynamics, multi-body dynamics, plasticity, and damage. Experience with non-linear and advanced Finite Element analyses (impact, fracture, failure, 3D woven composites) and structural dynamic analyses (sine, random, rigid body dynamics), including analytical techniques and numerical simulation tools. Experience with methods for design of experiments, data reduction, and statistical analysis. Proven ability to work in a team environment. Good communication (oral, written, presentation), interpersonal, negotiation and organizational skills.
