Job Description: Serve as a Research AST, Fluid Physics engineer in the Computational Aero sciences Branch of the Research Directorate. The branch performs research in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational aeroacoustics to improve the fundamental understanding of physics associated with the fluid mechanics and noise generation for complex aerospace systems. Job Requirements: In addition to the basic education requirement (shown below), you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade, which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above. Vacant research positions may be filled at one of several grade levels depending upon the scientific impact of the person selected. A review may be required to determine the appropriate grade level of the position and supplemental materials may be required from the selectee. Please keep this in mind when indicating the lowest grade you will accept. Qualification & Experience: One year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level performing research with high fidelity numerical simulations (i.e., computational fluid dynamics (CFD)) to analyze aerospace vehicles and components such as commercial/military aircraft, space transportation systems, launch vehicles; working with unsteady fluid dynamics (e.g., acoustic noise generation, separated flows); writing, reporting, and presenting results to include publications. Have an equivalent combination of experience and graduate education as described in A and B above To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level conducting research, interpreting, and correlating results of high fidelity numerical simulations (i.e., computational fluid dynamics (CFD)) to analyze aerospace vehicles and components such as commercial/military aircraft, space transportation systems, launch vehicles; working with unsteady fluid dynamics and flow physics (e.g., acoustic noise generation, separated flows); writing, reporting, and presenting results to include publication in professional journals and/or national conferences.
